The Brazilian Roundtable on Sustainable Livestock (GTPS) announces today a public consultation on the Indicators Guidebook for Sustainable Livestock. This stage aims to get comments from organizations and opinion leaders to the Indicator Guidebook for Sustainable Livestock. The material, developed by the Development Committee for the GTPS Guidebook, intends to encourage all members of the beef value chain to use indicators as a tool in the quest for sustainability.
The document, which is being built with the participation of all sectors interested in livestock sustainability, according to ISEAL international guidelines for participatory processes of multiple players, contemplates a gradual approach with different levels of participation, applicable to all members of the Brazilian beef value chain.
Since it is a self assessment tool, it is up to each user to evaluate his own performance or that of members from his value chain. It is important to highlight that GTPS will not supervise, endorse, certify or issue any report or label to GIPS users, nor will GTPS authorize any user to issue statements or use the GTPS trademark.
According to GTPS president, Fernando Sampaio, “the intention of this Guidebook is to be inclusive. We want to contemplate from those who are just beginning the journey towards sustainability to those already seeking to demonstrate achieved results. We are sure that all members in the value chain can become even more sustainable”.
GTPS plans to organize another public consultation before finishing the document in mid-2016. The first public consultation will be open until November 20th.
